Solid Waste Management
Door to Door Waste Collection:
1. Present Status—4 Auto Tippers are operating in 08 wards and commercial areas. Total 2000 house-holds and 500 commercial establishments are covered.
2. Another 4 auto tippers are needed to cover rest of the wards. OR remaining wards to be out sourced as per DMA guidelines to achieve 100% Door to Door waste collection.
3. Segregation at waste processing has been started. Resolution has been sort in the General body meeting held on 8/12/2011 that two wards have been selected for door step segregation and accordingly to encourage the residents two dustbins will be distributes among the residents. After successful trial total city will be covered under.
To achieve 100% target steps to be taken:
- Outsourcing under ‘no loss no profit basis’ by calling Expression of Interest Notification, OR
- Again purchasing another four auto tippers and employing drivers/loaders
- To purchase one more auto tipper approval has been sought under 13th finance fund. Tender process is under progress
- To initiate Door step waste segregation, proposal has been put before the council to purchase dust bins to distributes to Households to motivate
Waste Treatment at Compost Yard:
- Present Status – Compound wall partially constructed, watch man shed, sanitary landfill, vermin compost unit, bore well with pump, electrification leach ate collection tank available. And the waste transported to the site is openly dumped in the sanitary landfill and vegetable market waste is composted using vermin culture. There is no leach ate treatment facility available.
- Vermi Composting of the vegetable waste as well as segregated waste from Households has been started. Daily 4-5 tons of the mixed waste is segregated at the waste processing site.
- Approval has been sought for the purchase of compost segregating machine, immediately after purchasing full pledged compost segregation will be started.
- Tender process for the construction of Bio-Methanation plant is under progress
- To control foul smell generating from waste, it is sprayed with EM-Culture as per DMA guideline
